The Sao Paulo IndyCar race is set to resume at 4pm local time after more than two hours under red flag conditions due to a downpour.
The event was stopped nine laps in as the rain significantly worsened. Although it remains wet, the officials have decided that enough standing water has been cleared to allow another attempt to get the event – which will run to a two-hour time limit – underway.
Will Power will lead Penske teammate Ryan Briscoe at the restart, with Mike Conway, Takuma Sato, Graham Rahal and Dario Franchitti next up.
IndyCar officials decided to allow the whole field to return to the indoor paddock and let teams work on their cars during the long stoppage, meaning that several drivers who suffered seemingly race-ending damage during the original start will be able to rejoin, albeit several laps behind.
