Lapierre puts ORECA on Algarve Le Mans Series pole

ORECA driver Nicolas Lapierre claimed pole position for Saturday's Le Mans Series enduro at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. The Frenchman came out on top in a closely-fought qualifying session in which the top five cars were separated by just over a half a second. Lapierre's pole time of 1m32.020s aboard the lead ORECA-AIM 01 was just over one tenth of a second quicker than Stefan Mucke's best in the 007 Lola-Aston Martin.

Rain hands Stewart another pole

For the second week in a row and for the third time this season, rain has given points' leader Tony Stewart pole position, this time for the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Qualifying for Saturday night's event was scheduled for Friday afternoon but rain halted Nationwide Series qualifying with only two cars left to complete their runs, and officials decided to allow time for the track to be dry in order to resume the session. However, with the schedule being pushed back due to the wait and the Nationwide Series race planned for later in the evening, it was decided to cancel Sprint Cup qualifying
