Andretti Autosport and Sam Schmidt Motorsports drivers locked out the top five positions on the grid for Sunday's third round of the 2012 Firestone Indy Lights season on the streets of Long Beach. Sebastian Saavedra scored his second straight pole position, after doing likewise last race at Barber Motorsports Park.

Saavedra eclipsed Tristan Vautier late in the session, the Frenchman making late contact and limping back to the pit lane. As he did not bring out a red flag, he did not lose his fastest lap. Saavedra's 1:14.6143 beat Vautier's 1:14.7007. Esteban Guerrieri, Oliver Webb and Carlos Munoz completed the top five.

Series debutantes Nick Andries (BHA) and Alex Jones (Brooks Associates Racing) start 10th and 14th, respectively.
