TOPEKA, Kan. (August 29, 2007) – Sports Car Club of America and Heartland Park Topeka jointly announced today that Ed Conway and John Fippin will serve as the event announcers for the 44th SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by AT&T.
Thirty-six of the last 37 Runoffs events have featured the familiar voices of either Conway or Fippin, who will work together for the first time at Heartland Park Topeka.
Conway has been the longtime voice of both Road Atlanta (since 1970) and Road America (since 1990), serving as the event announcer for the Runoffs in its days at Road Atlanta from 1970 through 1993. Fippin, the lead announcer at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, called all 12 Runoffs in Ohio from 1994 through 2005.
“The Runoffs is always evolving as an event, but bringing in not only some familiar voices from the past, but also two of the most knowledgeable Club Racing announcers in the country, will help to deliver the atmosphere that participants and spectators expect,” SCCA VP Marketing & Communications Eric Prill said.
“A key component to any motorsports experience is knowing exactly what is happening during the race,” Heartland Park Topeka General Manager Lou Carroso said. “These two legendary voices are staples in the motorsports business and will provide race fans visiting Heartland Park Topeka the best information to ensure an enjoyable experience during the three days of racing.”
