The Formula 1 calendar will expand to 20 races by 2013, including a new street-course race in the Italian capital of Rome, according to the sport's commercial boss, Bernie Ecclestone.
"Rome will come onto the calendar in 2013. We will have 20 races and the teams will be happy with it," Ecclestone reportedly told Germany's Speedweek program.
Ecclestone has long favored additional races as a substitute for in-season testing. It is not clear whether Ecclestone's favored Rome event would threaten Italy's traditional GP venue of Monza.
