Davide Rigon added a check for 100,000 euros ($124k) to his race one victory this morning in the super final that rounded-off Superleague Formula's second round of the season at Assen in Holland.
Anderlecht's Rigon led from start to finish in an entertaining five-lap thrash, but he had to work hard to cling to his lead at Turn 1, as Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) made a great start and attacked hard around his outside.
Points leader Craig Dolby (Tottenham) grabbed back second place from Buurman going into Turn 2. They would swap places again on lap four, as Buurman made a brave lunge down Dolby's inside at Turn 5, only for the Briton to retake the position around the outside of the crowd favourite on the exit.
Rigon won by 0.6sec from Dolby, who fended off Buurman by 0.8sec. James Walker finished fourth for Liverpool, ahead of Max Wissel (Basel) and Franck Perera, whose Flamengo car suffered a flat engine.
"This was not expected, because we didn't have the best car," said Rigon. "We were three or four tenths slower than some of the others. I've never seen so much money! I'm very, very happy."
"I owe this one to the team, because they worked so hard on the car last night," said Dolby. "It was awesome in that super final, and we've really pulled it out today and scored some serious points. A great day."
Buurman added: "I think I led at the start for a moment, but later on I went a bit wide and flew for a meter -- I think my car is a bit bent! I'm glad to make the podium finally at Assen."
