Jason Bright memorial 2012

V8 Supercar racer Jason Richards was honored at a public memorial service at Sandown Raceway on Monday.

Richards, who lost his battle with a rare form of cancer at the age of 35 just before Christmas, was remembered by his family, fellow racers and thousands of fans.

Among his racing friends present were his former Brad Jones Racing teammates Jason Bright and Andrew Jones, plus recently retired rival Paul Dumbrell.

The service was led by TV presenter Mark Beretta and included tributes from Richards' father Dave, the championship's chaplain Garry Coleman and others.

Richards' close friend Cameron McConville closed the service and thanked the Kiwi's fans for their support during the latter stages of his life.
