Add IndyCar points leader Ryan Hunter-Reay to the list of drivers serving a 10-spot grid penalty for an unapproved engine change this weekend in Edmonton.
A fraught start to the weekend, as Hunter-Reay was deemed to have forced James Jakes off course in the morning practice session, is now made slightly worse as his Andretti Autosport team opted to change out his Chevrolet engine after his Toronto win.
Hunter-Reay is seeking his fourth straight victory this weekend, and is the third driver who will serve an Edmonton grid penalty.
Scott Dixon and Simona de Silvestro are both utilizing their sixth fresh engine this weekend, one beyond the series' allotted maximum of five. The penalty is more likely to affect Dixon rather than de Silvestro, whose Lotus has struggled for pace all season.
Hunter-Reay is in Saturday's second qualifying group. Groups are below:
Group 1 Group 2
Scott Dixon Helio Castroneves
Simon Pagenaud Mike Conway
Alex Tagliani James Hinchcliffe
