General Motors has announced a revamped management team following the ouster of interim CEO Fritz Henderson earlier this week.

Vice Chairman Bob Lutz will become an adviser on product development, while Mark Reuss was named president of GM North America. Reuss previously served as vice president of engineering for GM after leading the company's Australian division, Holden, in 2008. Susan Docherty, GM's VP of sales, will also get an expanded role in marketing GM's four remaining U.S. brands.

Lutz, 77, GM's product chief for most of the decade, had announced plans to retire at the start of the year. He later reconsidered and became vice chairman in charge of marketing.

The executive changes create a “new North American group,” GM said. The company had eliminated its North American strategy board after it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy this summer. Henderson had led North American operations himself until he resigned as CEO on Tuesday and was replaced as interim CEO by board chairman Ed Whitacre.

“I want to give people more responsibility and authority deeper in the organization and then hold them accountable,” Whitacre said in a statement. “We've realigned our leadership duties and responsibilities to help us meet our mission to design, build and sell the world's best vehicles.”
