The Associated Press reported Thursday that the IZOD IndyCar Series will not race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2012.

SMI president Bruton Smith told the AP an agreement has been reached to where IndyCar, which rented the track in 2011, will not race in 2012 per an IndyCar buyout, but leaves open the option of running there once again in 2013. IndyCar's lease was for three years.

The investigation into what was responsible for Dan Wheldon's death as part of the 15-car accident at LVMS is nearing its conclusion. Whether IndyCar might race on a street course in Las Vegas – among other schedule decisions – has not yet been determined.
