Danica Patrick might not be having the best of seasons in the IZOD IndyCar Series, but it doesn't seem to be hurting her in the pocketbook. Forbes.com reports that the IndyCar and sometime NASCAR racer is the world's third-highest-paid female athlete.
Forbes.com estimates Patrick's annual income at $12 million, behind tennis players Maria Sharapova ($25m) and Caroline Wozniacki ($12.5m). As you might expect, tennis players dominate the list, taking seven of the top 10 spots, so the position of Patrick remains impressive for auto racing.
Forbes.com's estimates are for the 12 months ending on July 1 and include the athletes' salaries, prize money, appearance fees and endorsements.
