The future of the IZOD IndyCar Series' planned final visit to Twin Ring Motegi in September remains an open question, according to a report in today's Indianapolis Star. The track is only about 80 miles from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant that leaked radiation following the massive earthquake in Japan, and the earthquake also caused "a sizable asphalt shift" between the third and fourth turns of the Motegi oval. Initial repairs have been carried out, but former IndyCar driver Hideki Mutoh, who has inspected the work, told IndyCar's Tony Cotman that they are not good enough to permit IndyCars to race on the track.
"He said it was way too bumpy right now for a single-seater," Cotman told the Star.
