Lamborghini will be represented in the new FIA GT1 World Championship next year with the latest version of its Murcielago racer.
The German Reiter Engineering squad, whose Lamborghini motorsport programs are blessed by the factory, announced this week that it will shortly begin work on a racing version of the Murcielago SV.
The car should become the third new-rules GT1 racer to join the FIA GT Championship this year after the Nissan GT-R and the Matech-built Ford GT.
FIA GT boss Stephane Ratel welcomed Reiter's decision.
"My target for 2009 was always to have three cars built to the new rules racing in FIA GTs," he said. "Next year I want five and I really believe that it is possible to have six."
Ratel has revealed that only six makes will be allowed into the new series.
