Constant late afternoon rain showers postponed Sunday's Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals eliminations at Auto-Plus Raceway after two rounds of competition. The semi-finals and finals will be contested Monday at 10 a.m. ET.
Overcast skies greeted the racers and fans Sunday but the weather conditions were cool and optimum for quick runs. Morgan Lucas of Brownsburg, Ind., who set a track record Saturday in Top Fuel qualifying, continued his record-setting pace by bettering his track mark with a lightning-quick 3.747sec round performance in defeating Spencer Massey. Lucas' time was the third quick best in NHRA history.
Lucas will face Doug Kalitta in the semi-finals Monday, while former NHRA champion Tony Schumacher takes on Shawn Langdon in the other semi-final race in attempt at another Gatornationals title.
In the Funny Car division, No. 2 qualifier Jack Beckman, of Norco, Calif., piloted his Dodge Charger to the semi-finals to meet former NHRA champion Robert Hight of the John Force Racing stable. Defending Gatornationals champion Mike Neff, in another Force entry, will battle Johnny Gray in the other Funny Car match-up.
Mike Edwards advanced to the Pro Stock third round with a win over Ron Krisher in the quarter-finals Sunday and will compete against Ronnie Humphrey. Past NHRA champion Greg Anderson will face Chris McGaha in the second Pro Stock semi-final.
Pro Stock Motorcycle national record holder Eddie Krawiec rode his Harley Davidson V-Rod to easy round wins Sunday as the Indiana rider looks for another Gatornationals title. Krawiec will go against Matt Smith in the third round of the motorcycle division. Henry Arana III will oppose Andrew Hines in the second Pro Stock Motorcycle semi-final.
