The 250cc German Grand Prix was red-flagged due to rain hitting the Sachsenring circuit while the riders were completing their first lap and will be restarted at 12:45 local time.

The starting grid will remain the same as in the original start, but the race will only run for 19 laps rather than the originally-scheduled 29.

Thus Gilera's Marco Simoncelli, who made a fine start from pole and kept his first position, will again lead the front row ahead of Hector Barbera (Pepe Aprilia), Alvaro Bautista (Aspar Aprilia) and Hiroshi Aoyama (Scot Honda).

The first lap of the interrupted race saw the crashes of Alex Baldolini (WTR Aprilia), Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda) and Imre Toth (Toth Aprilia) at the first corner, and Jules Cluzel (Matteoni Aprilia) later in the lap.
