NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson will have to start last for Sunday's Michigan race following a crash in Saturday's second practice session.
Johnson spun his Hendrick Chevrolet at Turn 4 as he lost downforce when closing on Childress driver Paul Menard. The five-time champion had gone quickest prior to the accident, and his time still stood as the fastest of the session.
Johnson was unhurt and able to rejoin practice in his back-up car, but with his primary Chevy now out of action, series rules demand that he drops to the back of the field. He had qualified third in Friday's grid-setting session, behind Joey Logano and Kurt Busch.
