Will Power continues to set the pace in this week's IndyCar open test at Barber, the Penske driver following up his fastest times in yesterday's two sessions by again going fastest this morning.
Power topped the timing charts with a best lap of 1m07.4981s, putting him 0.04sec ahead of nearest rival Tony Kanaan (KV Racing). Andretti Autosport's James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay, and the again strong Simona de Silvestro (KV) rounded out the top five, with Scott Dixon serving as the quickest Honda-powered driver in sixth for Target Chip Ganassi Racing.
James Jakes, who took over the second Rahal Letterman Lanigan car driven to fourth quickest yesterday by Mike Conway, finished the morning just ahead of new teammate Graham Rahal in 21st. Rahal also struggled for pace yesterday, and admitted last night that he was mystified by his lack of speed.
"I'm kind of baffled right now," he said. "The car obviously has some speed in it, but it's definitely hard to drive. I don't know if it's me, but the car definitely has a lot of oversteer/understeer characteristics that are making driving it extremely challenging.
"Even with that I feel like we should be able to put a lap together, but any time I put on sticker tires and push hard, I just go slower, so I'm a little bit confused as to why."
