Will Power topped the times in a delayed warm-up session ahead of Sunday's IndyCar race at Infineon Raceway.
Heavy fog forced the session to be postponed by more than an hour, and when the cars took to the track it was KV Racing's Ernesto Viso who led the initial phase. He was soon reeled in by Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon, whose 1:20.1895 lap stood as the benchmark for several minutes before Power topped it with a 1m19.623s.
Power's Penske team-mate Ryan Briscoe demoted Dixon back to third, but the New Zealander managed to improve his time to 1m19.9714s, which proved good enough to keep him in second until the end.
Briton James Jakes was fourth fastest for Dayle Coyne Racing ahead of his teammate Sebastien Bourdais and Sam Schmidt Motorsport's Alex Tagliani.
Meanwhile, Simon Pagenaud has been confirmed to drive the HVM entry for the race due to Simona de Silvestro's ongoing situation with the U.S. immigration department. The Frenchman ended the session in 12th place. Although attorneys and customs officials continue to work on the situation, she will not be able to make the race.
