GP2 organisers announced on Saturday that the Portimao round of this year's championship has been canceled. The Portuguese event was scheduled for the weekend of June 19-20.

Organizers said the circuit had not met its contractual obligations and therefore have decided to cancel the race, which will not be replaced. That means the season will now consist of 10 double-header rounds.

"We are disappointed to have to cancel Portimao this season, but the track organizers have not met their contractual obligations, and therefore, we cannot go back to Portugal this year," said GP2 boss Bruno Michel. "It is a shame because I believe that GP2 produced some great race action on that track last September, and we would have loved to have Portimao on our calendar again this season.

"We will see whether we can return there in 2011. Meanwhile, we will not replace this round in 2010, and therefore will now have 20 races on our calendar."
