TOPEKA, Kan. (May 29, 2009) – After a relaxing Memorial Day weekend, SCCA Club Racers and Soloists are back to work May 30 – 31 for two key events on the 2009 calendar.

For Club Racers aiming to be the first to earn an SCCA Club Racing Super Sweep, a win at this weekend’s Ohio Valley Region National Race of Champions will get you one step closer to the most challenging accomplishment in SCCA Club Racing. The races this weekend at Mid-Ohio are among the nine key National Races designated as the first leg of the Super Sweep. Following this event, only three races remain on the list: the June Sprints at Road America, the July 4th Rocky Mountain Division National at High Plains Raceway and the Northeast Division National at Watkins Glen on July 12. In addition to a race win at one of the nine key National Races, a driver must also win a Divisional Championship, a National Championship and the newly formulated National point standings, all in a single class, to claim a Super Sweep.

In addition to the Club National and Restricted Regional races, blessed with some 160 cars this weekend, Mid-Ohio is also hosting Round Four of the Muscle Milk® SCCA Trans-Am Series.

The May 30 – 31 weekend represents a major qualifying weekend for Solo competitors as well, with the Tire Rack® SCCA Blytheville National Tour in Blytheville, Ark., taking place. The event, held at the Arkansas Aeroplex, serves as the Eastern States Championship, a critical step to winning the new Solo Triad Award. To capture the Solo Triad Award, a Soloist must win at either the Eastern or Western States Championship event, plus win a Divisional and National Championship all in the same class. As an added bonus the 250-plus drivers making their way to Arkansas will get a glimpse at the best Soloists in the East and a sneak preview at their Solo National Championships competition.
