Pirelli is planning to alter the shape of its rear tires next year in order to improve the wear rates.
Although Pirelli has received positive feedback about how its tires have performed in its return season, motorsport boss Paul Hembery says changes are planned for next year. He said the tires will be boxier in 2012 as a result of the search for improved wear.
"The shape, yes [will change]. To get better wear on the shoulder. It's hard to quantify by how much it's going to change," Hembery said.
"At the moment we're not utilizing the full footprint there, which we knew about, but we had to try and block some of the development because we had so little time and we wanted to at least give the teams some fixed data that we're new to the sport and not wanting to keep making changes."
He made it clear the changes only come as a result of the Italian manufacturer seeking to get better performance out of its tires.
"It's Pirelli wanting to improve its product, from our point of view – improve the wear, improve the shape of the wear profile across the tire," he added.
