Andrea Piccini has signed up to lead the Hexis AMR's Aston Martin team in this year's GT1 World Championship. The 32-year-old Italian has raced an LMP2 class Lola for the Racing Box team for the last two seasons, as well as making outings in Phoenix Racing's Corvette in World GT1.
Piccini brings a wealth of GT racing experience to the Hexis outfit, having raced a Saleen, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati and Audi in the last five years. He will share with reigning European GT3 champion Christian Hohenadel, while returning Hexis AMR driver Clivio Piccione will be partnered by German F3 graduate Stef Dusseldorp in the sister car.
Hexis AMR team manager Philippe Dumas said: "We're proud to announce two complete driver lineups so early in the season. It confirms our sense of team spirit, and shows that we firmly believe in the future of this world championship.
"In the wake of our encouraging results in 2010, it's clear that we're tackling this new challenge with greater ambitions. Clivio did the first shakedown yesterday at Ledenon. Stef will be with him this Tuesday, and we'll put Christian and Andrea in the car at the end of the week."
