Peugeot Sport team principal Olivier Quesnel says he cannot be sure what caused the suspension problem that forced the No. 3 Peugeot out of Le Mans in the third hour of the race.
Pedro Lamy brought the car into the pits with a right-front puncture, but it was quickly discovered that the front right uprights had become detached from the chassis.
"The right front suspension broke away from the body," Quesnel confirmed. "So now as the car can't be repaired in time, we've stopped."
Quesnel added that while the cause of the problem was not possible to trace at the moment the team was investigating the issue.
"We don't know why this happened," he said. "Maybe we started very fast because of the Audi. Maybe the driver did something out of the road but I don't know. Maybe there is a problem with the body of the car. It's not a new body and it has already been raced. We will see but I don't know actually."
Asked whether he thought the same problem might occur on the other two cars, which currently hold first and second positions in the race, he said: "Maybe, but honestly I don't think so."
