Peugeot 208 S2000 rollcage

Peugeot has confirmed that its 208 model will replace the 207 as its S2000 rally car, starting in 2013.

A statement released by the French manufacturer confirmed that the new R4T model, which is currently at the design stage and is based on the 208 road car, will be eligible to compete in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the Super 2000 World Rally Championship and regional series across the world.

The statement read: "An eagerly awaited version of the 208 is the R4T, which is currently at the design stage at Peugeot Sport's Customer Competition Department. It will comply with the latest FIA regulations and will be ready to take over from Peugeot Sport's best-selling rally car ever, the 207 S2000, from the first quarter of 2013."

Peugeot also confirmed that a lower-spec R2 version of the 208, which would be eligible for the two-wheel-drive category of the IRC, is also due to enter service soon, and has been testing since late 2011.
