Penske Racing announced today that Guidepoint Systems, a vehicle tracking service, and PPG Industries will serve as both primary and associate sponsors of the team's No. 3 and No. 6 IZOD IndyCar Series entries at selected races this year. Guidepoint will sponsor the No. 3 Dallara-Honda driven by three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves (who will race in Shell-Pennnzoil colors at Indy and Auto Club livery at other events) at five races this season and Ryan Briscoe in the No. 6 Guidepoint Systems machine at two events in 2011. Briscoe's car – which will also appear in IZOD colors this season – will run three races in PPG colors.
“We look forward to building this relationship with Guidepoint Systems and we are excited to welcome another new sponsor to the IZOD IndyCar Series,” said team owner Roger Penske. “Guidepoint is a key partner for us in our automotive business and we will continue to grow with them both on and off the racetrack with Team Penske.”
In addition to serving as a primary sponsor for select events this season, Guidepoint Systems will also be a full-season associate sponsor on the No. 3 Team Penske IndyCar under the terms of the multi-year agreement with Penske Racing.
Guidepoint is a complete system that integrates global positioning satellites (GPS), advanced wireless technology, the Internet and 24/7/365 response centers to provide stolen vehicle recovery, driver safety and convenience, vehicle tracking and fleet management services.
Meanwhile, PPG Industries also announced today that it has reached a multi-year extension of its partnership with Penske Racing. The coatings and specialty products company will serve as an associate sponsor on all three Team Penske IndyCars this season, and will be the primary sponsor of Briscoe's No. 6 at the Milwaukee (June 19), Iowa (June 25) and Kentucky (Oct. 2) IndyCar events this season.
Additionally, PPG returns as an associate sponsor on all of Penske Racing's NASCAR entries this season. This includes the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Dodge driven by Kurt Busch and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge driven by Brad Keselowski in the Sprint Cup Series. In addition, PPG will be an associate sponsor on the defending champion No. 22 Discount Tire/Ruby Tuesday Dodge piloted by Keselowski and the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Dodge with driver Sam Hornish Jr. in the Nationwide Series.
“PPG has such a great history with Penske and we are excited about the opportunity to grow and develop this unique partnership even further,” said Bill Shaw of PPG. “We look forward to being a part of Penske Racing's winning teams in both NASCAR and IndyCar this season as we continue our very successful relationships with the other Penske business properties.”
PPG and Penske established their partnership in 1984 through PPG's participation in motorsports and sponsorship of the PPG Cup from 1979 to 1999 in the CART PPG World Series, where Penske Racing teams competed. Over the years, the relationship has grown and PPG has become the largest supplier of refinish coatings for Penske Truck Leasing and Penske Automotive Group's automotive collision repair centers, as well as Penske Racing.
“Our organization has enjoyed a terrific partnership with PPG over the years and we continue to grow as we work together,” said Roger Penske. “Working not only with our race teams, but with our other Penske Corporation businesses, PPG has made this a very successful relationship. They are a key partner for our teams in NASCAR and we welcome their increased role with us this season in the IZOD IndyCar Series.”
