With Porsche having recently confirmed its re-entry into the top level of sports car racing, one of the company's old racing friends has expressed an interest in returning with them.

Roger Penske revealed on SPEED's Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain that he had an interest in the program, and had preliminary talks with VW Group's Ferdinand Piech.

“With the recent announcement of Porsche going back to Le Mans in [2014], we hope we can be a part of that program. There's nothing to announce at this point. But, obviously, we had great success in the LMP2 with the [RS] Spyder.”

Penske spearheaded the RS Spyder LMP2 program in the American Le Mans Series, and the team won three championships (2006-'08) and numerous wins, including an outright victory in the 2008 12 Hours of Sebring.
