The #4 Pekaracing Chevrolet Corvette is now the favourite to win this year's Spa 24 Hours with three and a half hours to go after mechanical trouble struck its nearest rival.
The car, driven by Mike Hezemans, Anthony Kumpen, Jos Menten and Kurt Mollekens had been duelling with the #3 Selleslagh Corvette after the Vitaphone Maserati challenge faded earlier this morning.
A minor fuel rig problem for Selleslagh had helped Peka gain the initiative, but the lead was still swinging back and forth depending on pitstops. Then, in the 21st hour, Oliver Gavin suffered a spin and his Selleslagh machine started smoking and leaking fluid.
The car has now returned to the pits and is likely to fall down the order.
The closest healthy cars to the leading Corvette are now the Phoenix Audi R8 LMS and the recovering #33 Maserati, but their battle is 15 laps behind Peka.
The #121 Matech Ford GT comfortably leads GT3, while the #50 AF Corse Ferrari 430 heads GT2 by three laps.
