The latest operation to repair some of the damage to Dani Pedrosa's broken right collarbone was a success, the Repsol Honda squad says.
Thursday's surgery was conducted at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus by Drs. Xavier Mir and Cesar Garcia Madrid. According to a statement by the team, the operation was to fix, by compression osteosynthesis, a small fragment of bone that had dislodged during rehabilitation. This technique apparently allows for a faster consolidation period.
"We believe the surgery was successful as we were able to fix the fragment of bone in his collarbone in a very stable way and because of this we are confident that in 48 hours it will be possible to begin rehabilitation of his right shoulder," said Dr. Mir.
The Spaniard incurred the injury in a crash while racing with Marco Simoncelli in the French Grand Prix and has missed the last two races in Spain and Britain as a result. It remains unclear whether Pedrosa will be fit enough to compete in the Dutch TT at Assen on June 23.
