Marco Melandri described his second place in the French Grand Prix as the best podium of his career after taking his Hayate Kawasaki to a shock runner-up spot at Le Mans. The Italian had spent much of the winter fearing for his MotoGP future after an awful 2008 season with Ducati and then the bombshell news that his new employer Kawasaki was pulling out of the championship. He was unsure whether to accept a ride with the private Hayate Racing team now running the ex-works Kawasaki, but has flown since joining the squad - taking top six finishes at Motegi and Jerez before today's astonishing podium.
 

MotoGP: Lorenzo hails perfect strategy in Le Mans win

Jorge Lorenzo reckoned his tire strategy had proved perfect after claiming his second victory in the year in a wet/dry MotoGP race at Le Mans. The Yamaha rider pulled away from the field in the damp early stages, and then stayed out until lap 12, later than almost every other rider, before pitting to switch to his dry weather bike.
 

Kristensen ends DTM victory drought

Tom Kristensen took his first win since 2006 in the DTM season opener at Hockenheim, after dominant leader Mattias Ekstrom suffered a puncture on the penultimate lap. Ekstrom had been untouchable throughout the race, and held a lead of almost 10 seconds in the closing stages. But he was forced to pit at the start of the final lap when his left rear tyre fell apart
