The official Le Mans 24 Hours pre-event test will return to the schedule next season after two years away.

An official date for the test has yet to be decided, but Le Mans' organizing club, the ACO, feel its inclusion on the calendar is vital to help teams and manufacturers develop new technologies on their cars.

ACO president Jean-Claude Plassat said: "With the evolution of the regulations for 2011 it is important to us, the manufacturers and the entrants to have a full day's test on this specific circuit.

"The test will happen at least a month before the 24 Hours [scheduled for the 11-12 June], but we still have to decide the date."

The test was previously held the week before the race, until it was dropped for the 2009 event as a cost-saving measure.
