Oak Racing has withdrawn its Pescarolo LMP1 car from the Spa 1000km following Matthieu Lahaye's heavy crash in qualifying.

Lahaye hit the barrier hard on the run-up to Pouhon during qualifying, bringing out the red flags and causing heavy damage to both the guardrail and his car.

"The severity of damage to the car meant that the team would not have been able to carry out all repairs in time for the race, so we have had to withdraw from the race," said Lahaye's co-driver Pierre Ragues. "It's a shame after the initial performance that we showed in practice but it was the right decision."

Lahaye, whose best time would have been good enough for eighth on the grid, was taken to a hospital in Verviers following the accident, but the team said his condition is no cause for concern.

"Thankfully, his condition does not appear to be as bad as it could have been after such a crash but we wish him a quick recovery and look forward to welcoming him back in the team as soon as possible," added Ragues.

Despite withdrawing its LMP1 car, Oak will still take part in the race, fielding an LMP2-spec Pescarolo for Andrea Barlesi/Frederic da Rocha/Patrice Lafargue.
