Danish Touring Car racer Michael Nykjaer will make his World Touring Car Championship debut at Oschersleben in September.

Nykjaer, who currently lies second to James Thompson in the Danish championship driving a Chevrolet, will drive for Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark at Oschersleben.

"I can hardly believe that I will participate in a WTCC event," said Nykjaer. "These are the guys that I watch on Eurosport and now I have the chance to test myself against them."

Nykjaer has won the last two FIA European Touring Car Cups at Adria and Salzburgring, for SEAT and Chevrolet, respectively.

Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark team manager Kent Bo Steffensen is hopeful that the one-off WTCC outing will lead the team towards a full-time program in the series in future.

"Our goal is to compete with the best independents and we hope that the races in Oschersleben may propel our team towards a full WTCC campaign," he said.
