Red Bull team principal Christian Horner insists that there will be no team orders between Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber unless only one of them is in contention for the title later in the season.
The team has had a strict equality policy, but Horner believes that both of his drivers will be willing to act as number two if the time comes when only one of them has a shot at the title in the final few races of the season.
"It's early in the season to be talking like that for the moment," said Horner when asked by AUTOSPORT whether the team was thinking about prioritizing one driver. "We will support both drivers equally, but if there comes a time for either driver to have a serious crack at the championship in the last few events, they are both team players and will drive accordingly."
Despite an intense on-track rivalry between Webber and Vettel, Horner has no concerns that competition between the two will have any negative effects off track.
"It's excellent," he said of their working relationship. "They are both professional drivers, they are both at different stages in their career and they are both working for a strong team. Obviously, there is a professional rivalry between the two of them, but there is no number one driver. Updates are being introduced to the car equally at every race and that's the way it will continue.
"It's a very strong driver lineup. Both are driving fantastically well and they are bringing the best out of each other. Seeing them trade times at Silverstone shows that they are two guys at the top of their game."
Currently, the team is 30.5 points behind Brawn in the constructors' championship, with Vettel 25 points behind drivers' championship leader Jenson Button. Webber is just 3.5 points further back. Horner is confident that his team will continue to take the fight to runaway championship leader Brawn in next weekend's German Grand Prix.
"We'll try very hard, it's Sebastian's home race there and he's going to be extremely motivated," said Horner. "I don't see why we shouldn't be competitive at all of the remaining races.
"Our car suited Silverstone very well, but it's quite telling in sector three, which is all slow corners where the Brawn is traditionally fast, that both of our drivers were strong."
