NASCAR has approved a development of the HANS device for use in its championships.
The Sport II HANS device features a lower, more rounded collar than its predecessor, which is designed to make fitting easier and more comfortable for drivers.
It has also been approved for competition under criteria set by world motorsport's governing body the FIA and U.S. automotive safety body the SFI.
NASCAR made the use of the HANS device compulsory in 2005, having previously given drivers a choice of using it or the similar Hutchens device from 2001.
