BMW driver Jorg Muller believes any one of four marques can win the GTE-Pro class at Le Mans this year, despite the German make setting the pace in the run up to the event with its M3s.
Muller's co-driver Augusto Farfus placed the No. 55 BMW, which the duo will share with Dirk Werner, on pole with a GT2/GTE class record of 3m57.592s in yesterday's session. That put him more than 0.4 second up on Gianmaria Bruni's best Ferrari time, and two seconds clear of the fastest Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911 RSR.
The second BMW, driven by Andy Priaulx, Dirk Muller and Joey Hand, qualified third, despite an off for Priaulx. Nevertheless, Muller believes many cars could challenge for the win.
"This car is an evolution [of the 2010 car] with better aero, which definitely helps at Le Mans, where you need the straightline speed," he said. "It looks promising, but 24 hours is different. The car that wins will be the one that doesn't have a puncture or problems.
"You can't forget Porsche. Qualifying showed it's Corvette, Ferrari and us, but the Porsches are strong too."
