Shoya Tomizawa has been posthumously awarded the Michel Metraux Trophy, and will also be remembered with a minute's silence after the MotoGP warm-up at Motorland Aragon on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Japanese Moto2 star lost his life in an accident at Misano two weeks ago, and yesterday championship leader Toni Elias urged his peers to vote for Tomizawa to receive the Michel Metraux Trophy. It was previously awarded to the top privateer rider in 125cc and 250cc, but with no works teams in Moto2, the prize was to be decided by a riders' vote this year. The votes were collected this morning, and the late Tomizawa declared the winner.
In a further tribute to the Japanese rider, his racing No. 48 will be retired from Moto2 use.
