Scott Redding, Marc VDS, Phillip Island Moto2 2013

Moto2 championship leader Scott Redding has suffered a suspected fractured left wrist in a Phillip Island qualifying accident.

Redding had to be taken away from trackside on a stretcher following the mid-session crash, in which he bounced off the top of his Marc VDS Suter after losing control of the bike.

He was also to get to his feet to walk into an ambulance and was taken to the medical centre for checks on his wrist.

The Briton was subsequently transported to a Melbourne hospital for more detailed assessment.

Redding was sixth fastest at the time of the crash, but was pushed back to 10th by the end of the session.

His main championship rival Pol Esparagro claimed pole position.

The pair are separated by just nine points in the standings with three rounds remaining.

Sunday's race has already been reduced in length by 50 per cent due to tyre dramas.

It will still count for full championship points.
