Mortara set for Hungary FR3.5 race
Italian GP2 race winner Edoardo Mortara is set to make his Formula Renault 3.5 debut with SG Formula at the forthcoming Hungaroring round on June 13-14.
French Formula 3 Euro Series, and Formula Renault 2.0 team, SG stepped up to the championship at the most recent meeting in Monaco two weeks ago. Stephane Guerin's team had fielded former Comtec driver Anton Nebylitskiy, whose backing helped secure the FR3.5 squad's formation, alongside ART F3 Euro Series race winner Jules Bianchi.
Mortara is now close to filling the seat vacated by Bianchi, who has elected to concentrate on his F3 program for the remainder of the year.
"In Budapest I think I will race for SG," said Mortara. "For the moment it seems [to be a one-off]. At the moment it is not yet confirmed that I am doing it - I was talking with them and it's pretty sure, but I have no actual confirmation.
"So I should be in Budapest on Wednesday night, and then doing the race. They offered for me to do the race and [I thought] why not? It's good for me; it can be part of the learning process of learning how to drive powerful cars. I hope that if I do well then I can do more races with them, but we'll see."
Meanwhile, Comtec has confirmed that it will continue with Australian racer John Martin for the next two events in Hungary and Silverstone. The 2006 champion team is also understood to have secured a second driver who will complete the final six events of the season.
