Paul Tracy has revealed that KV Racing has promised him a car for the Milwaukee IndyCar Series race – so long as he wins the Indy 500.
In his latest blog for RACER.com, the Canadian veteran states: “During the conversations I’ve been having with Jimmy [Vasser, KV Racing co-owner], he offered me a nice little incentive… If I win Indy, he’s promised to run me at Milwaukee. Now that’s cool! I won there four times in my career… and I know KV Racing has a good setup: Will Power took fourth on the grid for KV last year.”
As well as four victories at Milwaukee (in 1995, ’99, 2002 and ’05), Tracy also twice started from pole there. The relatively flat one-mile oval, which traditionally holds its Indy car race the week after the Indy 500, is known for favoring road course aces, and does not set a premium on the car’s aerodynamics that gives the Ganassi, Penske and Andretti Green teams an edge on the steeply banked speedways.
Tracy, who has qualified 13th for this year’s Indy 500, also reveals that he and Vasser have been have had encouraging talks with potential sponsors for more races, including the Canadian rounds at Toronto (July and Edmonton. It’s widely acknowledged that Tracy, who hails from Scarborough, Ontario, is vital to make this year’s returning Toronto Indy car race a success.
Said Tracy: “No money has changed hands yet, so I’m trying not to get too excited. As I’ve discovered in the past, nothing’s certain until it’s fact.”
