Mario Moraes will miss this weekend's IndyCar round at Mid Ohio following the death of his father.
According to reports in Brazil, the 20-year-old has been in Sao Paulo with his family since Monday when his father, Mario Ermirio de Moraes, was admitted to hospital. Moraes, who was suffering from cancer, died on Wednesday aged 50.
Moraes will attend the funeral with his family today and has been cleared by his KV Racing team to miss this weekend's race.
A statement released by KV Racing co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser said: "On behalf of the entire KV Racing Technology organisation, we wish to express our deepest sympathy to Senhora Nidia Maria Faustino de Moraes, Mario, his sisters Fabiana and Natalia and the entire family for their loss."
