Mario Moraes has been released from the hospital uninjured following his crash in today's IndyCar Series race at Motegi.
The KV Racing driver made hard rearward contact with the Turn 2 wall in the incident on lap 66. He remained conscious throughout, but immediately beckoned for medical assistance when the car came to a halt. After being extracted from the car, Moraes was taken to Saiseikai Hospital in Mito for checks to ensure he had not sustained any back injuries. He was later given a clean bill of health and released.
Moraes had been running 17th when the crash – which replays suggested was due to an issue at the rear of the car – occurred, having earlier gotten up to 13th from 20th on the grid. His KV teammates Takuma Sato and EJ Viso went on to finish 12th and 15th.
