Mike Conway, injured in the spectacular crash at the tail end of Sunday's Indianapolis 500, underwent surgery Sunday night to repair fractures to his lower left leg. He also has a soft tissue injury to his lower left leg and is anticipated to have another surgical procedure later this week. Additionally, Conway has a compression fracture of one of his thoracic vertebrae and is being fitted for a back brace, which he will wear for three months and will prevent the Dreyer & Reinbold driver from racing.

Meanwhile, Ryan Hunter-Reay is scheduled to have surgery today on his injured left thumb, which the Andretti Autosport driver says occurred not in his accident with Conway, but in an earlier pit lane collision with the Target Ganassi car of Scott Dixon. After surgery, Hunter-Reay will be fitted with a carbon fiber splint, which should allow him to participate in the race at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend.
