Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke has gone off the road on the first stage of leg two in Monte Carlo. The Peugeot driver hit a patch of ice, clipped a bridge and slid down a bank early in the Labatie D'Andaure-St Pierre sur Doux stage.
Although the car did not sustain substantial damage, Meeke and co-driver Paul Nagle are unable to get it back up the bank and onto the road, so they are out of the rally.
Meeke had made a cautious start to the event, holding fifth initially, but then picked up his pace on yesterday's second loop and ended the day in second place, 42 seconds behind leader Mikko Hirvonen's Ford.
