#2 Audi, Petit Le Mans 2011The No. 2 Audi emerged fastest in an extraordinarily close second official practice session for this weekend's Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Just 0.116sec covered the four cars from the factory Audi and Peugeot teams at the end of the hour. Allan McNish's late 1m09.768s lap secured the spot for Audi, but the margins among the leaders were tiny.

The No. 8 Peugeot was only 0.002sec down on McNish in Franck Montagny's hands, while Romain Dumas put the No. 1 Audi third – 0.016sec off McNish's pace and 0.099sec ahead of Anthony Davidson in the No. 7 Peugeot.

The ORECA Peugeot sat out the session while its engine was changed.

Top gasoline car was the Muscle Milk Lola-Aston Martin in fifth with Klaus Graf, despite contact in traffic causing a scare for team boss/driver Greg Pickett early in the session. Christophe Bouchut topped LMP2 for Level 5, with Ryan Dalziel the quickest LMPC driver for CORE Autosport.

GT was almost as close as the front of the field. BMW took a one-two, with drivers Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand 0.025sec apart, and Pierre Kaffer also within a tenth of a second in the AF Corse Ferrari.

Alex Job Racing led the GTC pack, with Leh Keen setting its time.

Practice continues with a two-hour evening session at 7 p.m. local time.
