Allan McNish has given Audi an early lead in the Petit Le Mans, as the front row starting Peugeots dropped back in the wet opening laps.
Starting from third on the grid, McNish burst to the front as the leaders crested the hill at the exit of Turn 1 for the first time, and has pulled away at one second per lap in the opening stages.
His teammate Marco Werner also got around the Peugeots to establish an Audi one-two, although the German has Pedro Lamy's 908 right on his tail.
Stephane Sarrazin runs fourth in the second Peugeot, having just taken the position back from the De Ferran Acura.
Marino Franchitti has maintained Dyson's advantage in LMP2, while the factory Corvettes have surged to the front in GT2 – with shock polesitter David Murry already back to sixth in Robertson Racing's Doran Ford.
