With the end of McLaren's shareholding association with Mercedes-Benz last year (although the team continues to utilize the German manufacturer's engines for its F1 team), speculation had grown that its F1 team might drop its traditional silver livery for the 2011 season to further differentiate McLaren from the predominantly silver Mercedes F1 cars. The rumors took off after McLaren revealed new team clothing that was predominantly black and red, suggesting that the cars would follow suit. However, McLaren has refuted this talk via Twitter.
"Black livery? Er, no," the team tweeted, adding that its 2011 livery will be "the same Rocket Red and chrome finish that you've grown to love since Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was born in 2007. That's official, by the way."
