Marc Marquez expects sharing the Honda garage with 21-time MotoGP winner Dani Pedrosa will prove massively beneficial to his bid to acclimatize quickly.
The newly crowned Moto2 champion will move into Honda's works squad for the 2013 season, replacing the departing Casey Stoner. Marquez is not underestimating the challenge of stepping up into the premier class, and competing against not just of Pedrosa but also this year's champion Jorge Lorenzo.
In addition to adapting to more powerful machinery and the increased importance of race strategy, Marquez admits he will also have to cope with the "scary" form not just of Pedrosa but also this year's champion Jorge Lorenzo. He expects partnering with Pedrosa will however help reduce the shock of his new environment.
"As soon as I get onto MotoGP, it will be a shock: for its greater power, weight, and for its complex and obtrusive electronic management," Marquez told Motosprint. "I will try to learn calmly.
"I'm lucky because I will be teamed up with a good and expert rider: Dani had been my idol for his riding style.
"These days Jorge and Dani are scary: you can't afford to ride like you do in Moto2, where you fight side by side all the time. In MotoGP every single thing must be done at the right time. If you get that wrong, you throw away the race. Strategy counts for a lot; you need to give your maximum in training too, you can't leave anything to chance. It's very serious, you need to prepare well."
While Marquez was confirmed at Honda back in July, he said the importance of securing this year's Moto2 title had been all-consuming – at least until this weekend's season finale.
"Valencia will mark the start of another chapter in my career, that's why I want to enjoy my last Moto2 race to the end," he explained. "Obviously MotoGP has crossed my mind, but I've always tried to keep it off. I've tried not to think about it too much, because I didn't want it to overshadow my objective: to win the Moto2 title.
"I really wanted to become champion before switching series. I managed to do it in 125cc, and I wanted to do it with Moto2 too. I think it's important."
