ESPN reports that Richard Petty Motorsports is in talks with Australia's Marcos Ambrose to drive either its No. 9 NASCAR Sprint Cup entry being vacated by Kasey Kahne, or the No. 19 currently driven by Elliott Sadler. ESPN's report says team officials are "optimistic" that AJ Allmendinger will be back in its No. 43 next season, although Allmendinger has been in discussion with other teams.
Ambrose announced last month that he would not return with his current JTG Daugherty team next year.
