2010 MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo returned home yesterday to a rapturous celebration in Mallorca.
Thousands of fans turned out to serenade the newly crowned champion as he enjoyed a parade in his honor along the streets of Palma de Mallorca. The 23-year-old later presented Spanish dignitary Frances Antich with one of the "astronaut"-liveried helmets – a one-off design to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing – that Lorenzo will use in the penultimate round of the championship at Estoril at the end of the month.
Despite securing the championship at Sepang with three rounds to run, the Yamaha-works rider continued his devastating run of consistent podium finishes last weekend at the Australian Grand Prix, in which he finished second to Ducati's Casey Stoner.
