JR Motorsports took its second GT1 World Championship win of the weekend in the main race at Portimao, with Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm triumphing after their teammates Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck hit gearbox problems.

The latter pair had led a JR Nissan 1-2 sweep through the first stint, but as the stops neared it became clear that their No. 22 car had an issue developing. Soon afterwards Dumbreck allowed Krumm into the lead, and though the team hoped the car could be nursed to the finish, the Scotsman had to park at the trackside.

That left Krumm to pull away and take Nissan's first championship race win of the year by 5.4 seconds over Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner's Young Driver Aston Martin. This crew passed the Jamie Campbell-Walter/David Brabham Sumo Power Nissan in the pit stops – despite stalling – with Turner then holding off Brabham and the Dominik Schwager/Nicky Pastorelli All-Inkl Lamborghini to the finish.

The two All-Inkl cars had run together at first, but staying out longer before the pit stop did not pay off for Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng, who fell behind the Karl Wendlinger and Peter Kox Swiss Racing Team Lamborghini. Basseng was later passed by Bas Leinders' Marc VDS Ford, too, but resisted Ricardo Zonta in the second Sumo Power Nissan to finish seventh.
